"The resulting S (entropy) would be larger if you started out with a lower temperature and then proceeded to heat it." A gem I just learned in chemistry a while back. It's not really special, but when it hit me that the resulting entropy could be compared to my intelligence, well. It's like this: I started out with a very underdeveloped, untrained, and therefore initially useless brain. I always thought I was at a disadvantage, and I still do. But for some reason, reading that gave me hope. That someday, after all this toil and hard work, my useless, untrained brain would be sharpened to the height of its potential. And I know that it's in there. I just have to be so disciplined that one day, nobody would dare attribute my success to "natural intelligence" but hard, painful, difficult, mind-melting work. Basically, I need to heat my brain JUST right until it's forced to adjust to the pressure and actually catapult my intelligence to levels I've never known. I'm VERY excited about where this university thing will lead me. I mean, I'm not even sure if I want to be a biologist, but dammit, I actually feel kind of more motivated now. I don't have natural intelligence. I didn't have a good high school and background in the sciences, but discipline's something I can work on.
